Civil war

I was reading another thread about Syria and their civil war and it got me thinking about our history. We had a civil war but shouldn't the Revolutionary war be considered Civil war#1 and the war between the North and South be civil war#2? I have never heard the Revolutionary war called a civil war when there was no difference in what the wars were over. Some posters really know their history and I would like to hear their thoughts.
