Christmas trees

Forever Cynic

Posted 1:06 am, 11/02/2011

It's disrespectful to the troops to put it up before Thanksgiving. Plus, starting the celebration too early cheapens the real holiday.

My family has always began putting out decorations the day after Thanksgiving. IMO, that's still too soon, but it matches the neighbors.

I never do Christmas trees, rather do a few lights and maybe some pine combs, holly.

Nothing fancy just me myself and the cats and goats, dogs, chickens, cows, wild birds and a few turkeys.

Maybe a rabbit stops by or some other critters but they know they're all welcomed.

Stick up plenty of seeds and other neat little treats for the animals.

Seems they really enjoy it!

Come spring, always get a kick outta seeing all the new borns come up!

The birds always bring in some new tunes and plenty of fussing over a grub or worm!

Nothing like Christmas time to enjoy friends, family and a few strays too!

It used to irritate me to see people putting up Christmas decor before Thanksgiving. Now I enjoy it. It just makes winter time for exciting. Thanksgiving and Christmas is my favorite time of year. Most people are so cheerful and full of excitement, I love it!

I look forward to sending packages and cards to military family members around the world this coming season. Members of this family have fought against oppression in this land since the Battle of Alamance before the Revolutionary War as have many. Most likely if your family came to Wilkes just prior to the Revolutionary War from Randolph, Rowan, or Guildford counties you will find there names on the lists of people who supported the Regulators.

Veterans Day is the day I am looking forward to. After recent research my father and one other are the only members left from their NCNG unit mobilized 16 September, 1940 and sent to North Africa as part of the US Army in 1941. He lied about his age as he was only 17 at the time he joined.
