My Disney induced brainwashed softhearted self doesn't like trophy hunting.

Cecil would have eaten the baby gazelle's mother, circle of life. The dentist had zero intention of consuming Cecil.

Cecil's death made me sad.. Then I saw a picture of a little baby gazelle standing by a mound of earth with the caption.

"Cecil killed my mama".

I blame my brain washed soft heartedness on Walt Disney. I've never been the same since I saw Bambi's mother die. I was just a widdle kid.

I guess I almost would feel a little different about it if the $50,000 did actually go to help those in need in Africa. I'm sure there's no way to know that, but that would change things a bit for me anyway. I still think guided "hunts" like that are lame.

Lions are not facing extinction anymore than humans

Of the many things in your post I could disagree with, let's just say letting the lion suffer to the extent Dr. Palmer and his associates did is one of the things most people, not just bleeding hearts, have a bit of trouble with.

And justifying any atrocity with the idea that "well, it must help someone" is a little lame, too. I guess by that logic, the undertaker's glad when ISIS comes to town.

Lions are facing extinction, so explain how killing them is going to help this out?

And yes, letting him grow old and die naturally is exactly what should have happened.

Trophy hunting has been a sport for thousands of years. There is nothing inherently wrong about it. In the case of the dentist, he was lead astray by his guides. The bleeding hearts who would rather see the lion get old and diseased, walk around crippled and in a daze, then eaten by Wildebeests, while his children and grandchildren looked on. Hunting has always boosted herds, increased the health of animals because it keeps from overpopulation. If they had Planned Parenthood for animals, they would be kept from overpopulation and even probably become extinct because PP is constantly trying to snag other women into their "health clinics". They won't be happy until all babies are aborted and the parts are auctioned off to the highest bidder to keep the old people alive. Then the old people die anyway... Cecil was no one's pet lion. Shame on America for not having pity on the poor Africans who received benefit from this $50,000 price tag. They have a lot more issues with survival than to care about some lion.

Normally yes their head and skin. The hunters will have the head mounted and turn the skin into some sort of decoration and leave the meat to rot.

Some airlines announced yesterday, they will not longer allow "hunting trophies" on board.

What is the actual "trophy"? Is it the head of the animal? If so, what happens to the rest of the body?

Did he spend 50k to have a lion's head to hang on his wall? The story? What? It seems primitive to me.

I think it all depends on the person. I see both things as tragic. Actually, I think it's a tragedy in itself that humans exist that can justify SPENDING that much money in order to be able to kill a lion. Of course people can spend their money on what they want, it just kinda shows a persons character. That same person could spend that much money on something that would make a great impact on their community. Just seems like a waste.

The Kate Steinle story is more tragic simply because she is a human. There are people that place more value on animal rights then human rights, but I'm not one. I'm an animal lover, but they have their place. Cecil was in his place and should have been protected.

I've been heart-broken over the story of the little girl in Santa Cruz that was killed by a 15 year old boy. That one has hit home for me, because this was a KID that killed her. I have tried to teach my child to be nice to other kids and I've never really instilled any sort of fear of another child in her. We all know to teach them to be wary of adult strangers, but this was a child and a friend. Horrible!

Amen , the wanton killing of Cecil was a tragedy. So every time anyone mentions it , they have to mention every other tragedy in the world. ?.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have the ability to care about multiple things in different ways. Just because I'm ticked about Cecil doesn't mean that I can't also be ticked about other injustices. I suppose for some that's a difficult concept.
