I don't know why anyone is knocking VT. If it was me I wouldn't care how long it took to get the title when they gave a loaner. Drive the wheels off of the loaner.

Had they told you up front that it would take some time to get the title it would be different but who wants to buy a new car and then not be able to drive it.

I would think the reason they cant give you another 30 day tag is because the DMV would catch on to them selling cars with out title in hand.

If VT had just recently acquired the car you bought, then I can see where it would take more than 30 days for the title to catch up with the resell of the car. I'm thinking even though it is a felony as someone else posted, there's probably an exclusion for a dealership that's waiting to get it, yet has a new buyer in the meantime.

Since they offered you a rental until all the paperwork bugs are worked out, then, I feel better that it is just a paperwork/time issue. Had it been a small time car lot, then, I would be much more concerned. They likely took the car in on trade, had to get the title from the other owner's lender who had to do a title release with the state before VT could get possession of it. So take the rental and have fun with it until the dust settles. As for making payments...you do have the car in your possession and they are providing you with a rental to stand in for it until the title comes through. So, you're not really "out" anything, other than emotional happiness from driving the car you picked out.

Haul manure!

IT IS A FELONY TO DELIVER A MOTOR VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO PRODUCE A TITLE. Contact the NC DMV License and Theft Division. They have an office in Wilkesboro. I believe they maintain office hours Tuesday AM, the rest of the time they are out checking dealers and inspection stations

and Victory Toyota strikes again.....
in their defense they have to process the title to get it in to your name, if you are making payments then the title is going to the bank and wont come to you until its paid for unless you had a personal load instead of a car loan. Did they give you a car the same quality as yours? as new? then drive the wheels off it, take a road trip, use it haul manure for your garden, and when they complain tell them that it had to take the place of your car and these are things that you would have used it for.

Car dealers are the lowest sort of scum.

I agree with the other people who said to call DMV since what they did is against the law. You said they offered you a rentel car are they paying the rentel fees or did they expect you to.

Call Barry Milam at the DMV office in Wilkesboro. I guarantee he will get it straightened out really fast for you. You will not need an attorney.

There is a very good chance they will not be able to get the title by March.

I would first call and advise them you will be calling the DMV to turn them in if the problem isn't fixed immediately.

Let us know what happens.

Sounds like there was a lean on the title that had not been paid off. Victory Toyota may have known or not knew about it. If you want to keep the car I am sure Victory Toyota will get things worked out for you. It is their fault you are in this predicament and if things don't work out take the car back and demand your refund. If none of this don't work out its time to talk to the title and license plate agency, the state and then to a good lawyer. In that order.

If I had my bill of sale and all my receipts I would keep driving the rental till the wheels fell off ! Do you still have the original car and if you do hide it till they produce the title. There is a 3 year limit for seeking claim for money owed in North Carolina but I don't know if this applies to this situation.
