Why settle, if you have the money and ability to have more? Like Magna said, it's his life. Maybe he thinks the risk is worth it. Maybe he'd rather die trying than continue living a lie.
...god I can understand that.

It's his life, his experience, so it's up to him what to do.

He was labeled as the greatest athlete in the world, so I would imagine that he can handle being put under anesthesia at 65 years old. I'm sure if it was unsafe to do so, then the doctors preforming the surgeries would deny him. No patient would be worth losing your license

Don't worry...no one is taking him seriously. I respect you for stating your thoughts in an intelligent way high. Even if we disagree, at least we can have a respectful debate.

He still has his male parts, high. I don't think that he ever said he was planning on having reconstructive surgery to turn his male genitalia into female. He may do that type of surgery, but as of now, he hasn't.
I'm sure he just really wants to look in the mirror and see a woman, not a man with long hair an makeup. So he's taking female hormones to change his look...he has had surgery to shave his adam's apple and make it seem less noticeable. And he's had other facial surgeries also, obviously.
He was labeled as the greatest athlete in the world, so I would imagine that he can handle being put under anesthesia at 65 years old. I'm sure if it was unsafe to do so, then the doctors preforming the surgeries would deny him. No patient would be worth losing your license.

Actually, Glen Burke, a MLB player was out of the closet in 1976. Yep, a black gay man playing baseball and he wasn't lynched. And in 1981 Martina Naritalova and Billy Jean King both came out publicly. (King not by her own choice at first)
So HOL is full of cap again

I just read that he started hormone therapy in the 80s, but stopped when he met Kris. That kind of eliminates any theory that he's just doing it now for the attention.

ok...look, smart post doodle....I mean really.....but why would he go thru something so dangerous?.....he could have lived as a woman anyway....it is like they say, sex is mostly in between your ears, not the other place....without putting his health in such jeopardy is all.....what if he would have died over that?.....he easily could have.

Read this, high:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...ted_States
It's interesting to read how transgenders were so hated by society until recently. Think about a man that was working so hard to be an Olympic athlete, and at the same time reading press about people like him that were losing their jobs and legal rights. He had to choose between living a lie, or having a promising career.
He probably didn't even really know what it was, because it simply wasn't that known back then. It's not like he could go to Google and look it up. He just thought he was weird.
He was married and had children by time he was 23, so by time transgenderism became even a little socially acceptable, it was too late for him to do anything about it without hurting people. It looks like he waited until now because his children were finally grown and able to understand it.

I think that he was just trying as hard as he could to be what society deemed as "normal." I think that he was able to succeed as an Olympic athlete because he was so driven, at that time in his life, to prove to himself and to others that he was a male. I think that he really tried to be a man, but something was always eating away at him, no matter what he did, that made him feel like a woman.
He tried to live by societies standards. Now that he's a senior citizen, he has decided that he is going to be himself, and not hide what he feels inside just to appease society.
We all know that the older we get, the more we develop into our real selves. How many senior citizens do you know that care about wearing the newest fads just to fit in? They don't, because as we age, we start to understand that the only person you should worry about impressing or answering to is yourself. I think that Bruce has just now come to this realization.

Think about how society has treated people like him throughout history. How dangerous it was for people to just come out as gay, even a few years ago. Imagine a celebrity athlete doing this 20 years ago! He would have been lynched overnight.
The tragedy is that it took him this long to be able to be himself. Had he just been able to be honest 50 years ago, look at how many lives would have been changed
He could have been honest 50 years ago, but I'm not aware of sexual reassignment surgeries taking place back then, so I"m not so sure he would of even been taken seriously....other's might have understood more...IDK. I find it more difficult taking him seriously now than I would have then to be honest.....he has wasted his life away and ruined other ppl's as well with marriages and children that he must not have even felt like a husband or father to....now thats on him.

high_on_life (view profile) | Jenner wasn't trying to tell anyone how to live their lives, he was trying to help other's understand his decision, his life, and in doing so , give other's who face what he faced, a reason to go on.
....but to wait until one is 70? That is a brutal transformation and I'm shocked he survived it.....a man of his age. One would hope that other's will recognize it earlier in their lives while they are still young enough to live thru the diversity of it all, what's he going to do with himself at this point, honestly....sit around and wax his legs and paint his toe nails with the youngeons?
