Everyone needs to look at Wilkes Journal Patriot website. The 50+ year old man (NOT A TEENAGER) driving a GEO METRO ran a stop sign on Old 60 off Red White Blue Road. The truck driver was heading to 421 on Red White Blue Road when the driver of the Metro ran the stop sign. If you know that intersection you know that Red White Blue Road has full run and Old 60 drivers have to stop. The family of the man in the Metro hasn't been contacted yet do to the fact they can't find his next of kin hence the paper not releasing his name. I wish people would get their dang facts straight before they start posting crap on here. The drive of the truck tried to avoid hitting the car but couldn't. If you know trucks you know a fully loaded 18 wheeler can't stop on a dime. The estimated speed of the truck was 35 miles an hour in a 35 mile an hour intersection the cars estimated speed was the same. If you don't believe me check the papers web site.

It's crazy that the family hasn't been notified yet. I pray that the next of kin is located soon. I heard there were several wrecks yesterday. It rained alot and there were lots of water ponded on the roads. Weather could have very well been a factor in this accident.

I think the same can be said for this morning as well.. people please slow down and be cautious.

How old was the person?

I travel that road daily, even empty semi's barely get to the speed limit by the time they reach old 60. If he was flying they would of been in front of the guardrail instead off turning enough to go behind it.

I am not playing devils advocate but I saw the wreck and I know that a 60,000 lb tractor/trailer could not have reached more than 40MPH at the top of the hill where the collision happened. Yes they do travel fast down this road and I have cursed many of them, but my point is that the location of this wreck is physically impossible to reach high speed up the incline. My pick up wont even do it with a small trailer. Lets not point fingers at truck drivers. The driver of the car ran a stop sign... it could have been ANY one of us who travel that road daily that hit him. This is what amazes me about this country. We always point fingers at tragic times instead of pulling together. I have served 4 tours overseas and it sure would be nice to see America be as close together as the men fighting for this country are. So instead of making accusations, say some prayers. Thanks.

Next of kin should have been notified by now...it was a teen...I wouldn't go too long without hearing from my children before I started hunting for them.

I travel through this intersection quite often. I generally am turning right off of Old 60 onto RWB going towards Roaring River. The hill there is very dangerous as you can not see over it. Many times, there has been nothing coming, but by the time I got turned and straightened out I was nearly being ran over by a car or semi.

Granted i know you're suppose to stop at a stop sign but these 18-wheelers drive too fast on Red White and Blue road I've met quite a few myself that come barreling down that road that act like they're on a race track,I'm surprised that more of them don't turn over,Maybe that's where the law should set more often.

It is terrible that as of the time the story was posted (9:25 pm) that the next of kin had not been notified.
