Go, Goddess! I did receive some FA, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to what I'm having to pay off for what seems like forever. Gotta do what ya gotta do, I guess! It's either go in debt to work in a skilled field or make minimum wage or a tad above the rest of my life. The latter was not an option.

mrmike, evidently you do not live in Wilkes county.

The average wage earner in Wilkes and surrounding counties have a high school diploma, at best. You take someone who spent their adult lives doing repetitious factory work, with no marketable higher education skills, then yank that factory job out from under them, what are they going to do?

There are no factory jobs left, even RJ Reynolds now hires through the ESC, and require a mandatory engineering degree.

So tell us, where are these magical jobs in our area that pay a liveable wage for a family of 4 or more that will prevent them for needing public assistance???

I've been fired, layed off and lost my job because of the economy down turn but always had a job and no hand outs. all I see and and hear are the cry babies who can't find a job because it doesn't pay $100,000 a year!!!

Had two really good jobs, one unskilled and one skilled. Lost both of them due to the jobs being taken overseas. And now...?

Meanwhile the State of North Carolina has received it's second warning that it must get faster at approving food stamp applications or risk losing money that supports the agency.

Um give them skills? For what? The government keeps making one sided trade deals, that keeps sending jobs overseas, then turn right back around make the excuses, Regulations just to many, Taxes are just to high, American workers cost to much because they want fair freaking pay. The all time favorite is Americans will not do those jobs then other excuses, too educated, not educated enough, and Blah Blah Blah and Blah!

My opinion is if those in our freaking Government actually did what they're supposed to do, actually Had to work for their salaries, Salaries just like the average person has to make and live on. You wouldn't see nearly as many people needing help/welfare because the Government wouldn't have Ever let it get to the point people needed help. Most of the problems are created by the government but they're so good at passing it back, we the people sit about *****ing and blaming each other!

Goddess you are to be commended for your hard work.

Let the poor who can't find jobs, or those who have been laid off from their jobs because of downsizing or any other reason , starve , is that the America we want ?

Jump up and down over abortion, but after the poor babies get here , kick them to the curb.

"give them the skills they need"....I'm quoting the 2nd speaker...

No one, nobody...gave me the skills I needed for the 2 careers that I have...NO ONE!!

I earned those skills and I paid for my schooling to learn those skills...all on MY OWN!!!

good idea Arizona!!!!
