And this is why you require a performance bond and a contract with dates along with daily fines for over the deadline. A good builder will have no problem doing either.

I hope you have a date for completion in your contract. It is normally one year.

At least 25 percent of the time you're paying them to work, the electricians are on their cellphones and it's the same thing with the drywallers, carpenters, roofers, painters etc. The inspectors can also slow progress down trying to get a good look at the plumber's butt crack.

It's funny watching so many people that no nothing about construction discussing contractors. First, you have no recourse. You didn't put a deadline in a contract. In fact, I bet you don't have a contract other than a verbal agreement. You can fire this contractor and hire someone else. But that's it. You have nothing to take legal action over. Second, you have no idea what they are doing. There are reasons that good builders don't rush a house. Speed can cause problems later.

Not knowing a lot about contractors and agreements my question is have they been paid to complete the home ? Could you hire another local contractor to complete the job ?

"they"

In my experiences with a contractors, it's the same with all of them no matter who you get. You hire them to do the job. At the same time, they don't won't to turn down other work, and so on. So sometimes they may be building several houses at the same time in order not to lose the business. Therefore every ones house is a slow process because all their assets are split between several projects. Also no matter who, the WILL NOT be there when they say and will not call you if they're not coming. Some builders and contractors that have done work for me have been life long friends, church friends, or people you've at least known. They are the same as all the others. They will be there two weeks after the day they said hey were coming......at least.

Abovetopsecret, I agree, the weather has been bad. I'm not saying that. But look at this week, Monday and Tuesday was nice, nobody worked, yesterday it did rain, today and tomorrow suppose to be nice, again, no workers. He said they would try and be back on Monday!

Looking back on things I sorta wish we had went with a prefab.
But, yes sir, started building in June. They have NOT worked a full week since they started construction in June. They just keep on coming up with excuses...

Thats what you get for hiring a cut throat from gastonia. They probably figured out subs wouldnt come up here so now they cant do the work. The weather has been bad in their defense.

So the plans and every detail of this1200 sq.ft. house were already made back in June and it's not finished yet?

Crypt

I have said on previous threads that a modular aka premanufactured home is the only way to go. This proves it.

River Otter, what would you need to know. It just seems they don't want to work. And I plainly ask if they would have a problem driving to Wilkes from Gastonia, and they said "NO" they didn't mind one bit! But I sorta took that as of they just wanted the money!

You may have a legitimate complaint against this contractor, can you be more articulate?

Did you require a performance bond? If no then your only recluse is leagal action or the threat there of.

inyoface

No, I've never worked construction.
Yes Crypt, the roof is on. He had made the comment one time about getting the roof on so they can work on the inside out of the weather. But that has not mattered, they work even less

Is the roof on yet?
