Aldis is a joke. Just like Sav a lot on 18. Off brand stuff that the real stores don't want

268, I sat down one day and compared every item on my Aldi receipt to what I would pay at Walmart. I came out ahead even with spending the gas to drive to Lenoir, I still spent about $20 less than if I had gone to Walmart. And if bringing your own bags is too much of a bother for you, then yes, you should probably continue shopping at Walmart. The same goes for paying $.25 for a buggy, which you will get back if you return the cart

You get your .25 back when you return your cart....That is a good system I think. It makes sure that the carts are put back, rather than left out in the parking lot. The bag thing doesn't make any difference to me, as I always take my reusable shopping bags everywhere.

Fins, did you even read the article?

What's your point? There are plenty of people that will shop by price instead of quality. I'm not one of them.

As an added draw, Aldi now offers an ever increasing selection of organic fresh produce, with prices comparable to Wal Mart prices on conventional fruits and vegetables.

Every Aldi store I've been in looked like a homeless soup kitchen with the dirt and the vast selection of no name brands.

So it's an off brand grocery store? Don't we already have one of those off Hwy 18? Save a lot (or something like that)?

It's only an off brand because that's what your told. We shop there and have never really had a problem with quality.

That's really not true. Store brands are made in the same factory, but they're not identical. What usually happens is the first run of food goes to the brand name, and the lower runs (the ones that don't have the better ingredients and might have more corn or flour) go to the store brands.

It's only an off brand because that's what your told. We shop there and have never really had a problem with quality. They have a crap load of gluten free as well. If you pick up a gluten free product by mistake then it will definitely taste different.

Funny thing is that Aldi is owned by the same company that owns Trader Joes that many people swoon over.. The "off brand" labels are all produced by the same companies on their main lines as the "name brands." For example the Aldi brand canned coffee is produced by Maxwell House, but is $5.29 a can. Walmart can't beat their prices if someone isn't hung up on name brands.

I've been occasionally shopping Aldi for years and with a few minor exceptions their no name brand quality is equal to anything with a name brand label on it. Rumor is they are also locating in Boone in the future.
