When I was having problems with my desktop, I sanded the entire top, put a stain on it, and finally varnish. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I hope you get the problem solved.

@Mike,

Just purely for future reference:

In the event you are ever flashing the bios on a computers motherboard always get and perform the bios flash using the manufacturers guidelines and or instructions and always let it finish. Never ever interrupt a Bios flash. Also never flash a bios unless you have a legitimate reason to do so and know what you are doing. You could turn your PC into a paperweight rather quickly.

Qualifier Questions:

Are You Running A Dedicated Video Card by any chance. Try Unseating it also and see if you do not boot right up.

After reseating the CMOS if the problem still persist you may very well have a corrupt bios or a Bios infection. To be sure I would troubleshoot the memory next down the line for troubleshooting.

@Chris87 Yes you are on the correct trek. It screams to me to be a bios or non boot problem caused by the memory which I am sure it did you as well. I simply wanted to rule out the obvious first. You are correct in ruling it out in this situation. I stand corrected.

As far as monitors, yes I too have had good success with Acer monitors. I've used about 5 brands in my lifetime. I disagree that real world experience is irrelevant at any point and time. 15 years with my Samsung Syncmaster Monitor going strong is certainly nothing to take lightly.

have you tried starting it from the boot menu or in safe mode?
turn it off ...hit the power button and start pressing the escape button or f8 button(try both ways) one or the other/both should bring up a menu that should let you start the pc

The symptoms that the user is explaining is not signs of a "monitor issue." If it was then the keyboard would not beep when a key is pressed and would function as normal... Also, telling someone to always go with what you bought, is irrelevant as everyone has good success with different products. We use Acer monitors here and have never had a problem, and if you go look they actually have the highest reviews... We still got some users using Lenovo monitors back when we leased Lenovo equipment...

Asecondthought, good call. It seems like you might have nailed it. Monitors do have a moderate rate of failure. I've had 3 go bad in the last 6 months. Of course 2 were second hand.

If your looking for a new Monitor always go with Samsung Syncmaster series. Best monitor I've ever owned. Got one thats 15 years old still going strong!!!

To parlay off of asecondthought, on Your monitor is the power button led light amber blinking or green or blue, solid. Always Check Physical Layer first.

Verify your monitor is good. Easy way is to unplug it from your computer, turn it on and if is says "no signal input" - then your monitor is working.

If you can post the make and model of your pc for better instructions.

Chris is right. Most PC's today use built in onboard video. Cmos is also labeled JP 11 on 95 percent of PC motherboard.

You may need a magnifier glass to read it.

**FIRST AND FOREMOST DISCHARGE YOUR BODY FROM ANY ELECTRICITY BY TOUCHING THE METAL ON YOUR CASE OR WEARING AN ANTI STATIC WRIST STRAP. ESD IS VERY DANGEROUS TO COMPUTER HARDWARE!!**

Now with that disclaimer out of the way, let's try to clear the CMOS.

Open the case of the computer and look for a battery that resembles a watch battery. Remove the battery and leave it out for 1 minute. Put the battery back in the slot. Turn on the computer and see if it boots up normally.

You may also have a jumper that is a plastic piece that touches 2 short metal pins. If you have one of these and it's labeled clr cmos or something similar, please remove it as well and leave it out for 1 minute and then put it back in and turn on the computer and see if it boots up normally.
