Stone Mountain State Park offers more than 13,000 acres of mountain beauty for a variety of outdoor activities.
The main gate opens each morning at 8:00am and closes:
9:00 PM from June to August
8:00 PM during September, April and May
7:00 PM March and October
6:00 PM November - February
CAMPING:
Stone Mountain offers family camping, backpacking and group camping facilities. 37 family camping sites are
available on a first come basis.
Six group camping sites are available by reservation only. Backpackers must register at trailhead and use one
of the six designated sites only. The following rules apply:
All tents must be kept on the gravel pad of the family campsites.
A maximum of 6 people will be allowed on each family campsite.
Family campsites and back country campsites are available on a first come basis.
Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM until 7:00 AM.
Maximum stay in the campground is 14 days in a 30 day period.
Check-out time is 3:00 PM
Backpacking sites are limited to four people on each site.
Reservation form and deposit are required in advance for group camping.
Group Campers may not use showers in the family campground.
PICNIC SHELTERS:
Picnic shelters are complete with granite fireplaces, grill and picnic tables. Shelters are on a first come basis
unless reserved. In the surrounding picnic area you will find 75 picnic tables all of which have a grill.
FISHING:
All fishermen are required to possess a current fishing license and trout stamp. All N.C. Wildlife Resource
Commission laws apply.
"Fish for Fun" (Bull Head Creek) is on a first come basis and is self registration. It requires a fly rod
and reel, barbless hook, and net. This is a catch and release area.
Wild and Native Streams are artificial bait with single hook. You may keep 4 fish, minimum 7" long.
Includes Big Sandy Creek, Garden Creek, Stone Mountain Creek and Widows Creek.
Delayed Harvest Streams are available Oct. 1 through the first Friday of June using artificial bait,
single hook, catch and release and the 1st Saturday of June through Sept. 30 using any bait/any lure. You may
keep 7 fish, no size limit.
ROCK CLIMBING & TRAILS:
Experienced climbers enjoy the cliffs of Stone Mountain, where climbing is permitted in designated areas. All
climbers must register before beginning a climb. Enjoy 17 miles of rambling scenic trails. View Stone Mountain
with its' 600 foot granite capped dome. Admire any of our four cascading waterfalls which are accessible only by
trail. Trails range from moderate to strenous.
