Key City Cook-Off

Public Event

Saturday, Sep. 8, 2012
Memorial Park

The inaugural Key City Celebration will be held Saturday, September 8th from 2 until 7PM at Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro. This event is FREE to the public! This event will celebrate some of the best things about North Wilkesboro including music, food, and trains.

The Key City Cook-off will be a big part of the event. Some of the best chicken cooks around will be competing for the Key City Cup,a prize to be held for one year along with bragging rights. The first fifty people to attend the Key City Celebration will receive a free tasting ticket to participate in the Peoples Choice Award.

In addition to barbecue chicken, the event will feature other food vendors, craft vendors, and activity booths hosted by the Wilkes Public Library, Wilkes Smart Start, Wilkes Art Gallery, and NC STEP. There will be a bouncy house on site for children as well as the Livingston Trackless Train. The Trackless Train will be on site from 4PM until 6PM offering free rides.

Live music and entertainment will also be featured throughout this event. Performers include local dance studios, Seniors on Stage, and The Local Boys.

The Key City Celebration will also commemorate the Town of North Wilkesboros inclusion in the North Carolina Small Town Economic Prosperity Program. The N.C. Small Towns Economic Prosperity Program, or NC STEP, was launched in spring 2006 as the centerpiece of the Small Towns Initiative. While the initiative addresses broad issues affecting the growth and development of small towns, NC STEP focuses in on how to help individual small towns reinvigorate their economies. Everyone is encouraged to stop by the NC STEP booth for more information about the program and how to get involved.

The Key City Celebration is a community-wide, free event. All are invited to join in this celebration of North Wilkesboro, and the people that make it great.
